Alhamdulillah, with His Grace and Mercy, on behalf of the teachers and administration, I would like to warmly welcome our students to the new academic year. Hopefully, the summer break was refreshing and rejuvenating for all of us, and we are now ready for another (rigorous) academic year.

All students will be off at 12:05 pm on Fridays.  Also, Gate Close time will be 7:50 am.  However, please do note that our morning assembly is an integral part of our Tarbiyah program, thus it is crucial for all students to be in school premises before 7:40 am.
Punctuality is a very basic part of our Deen and most of the commandments ordained by Islam (Namaz, Hajj, Fasting, etc) emphasize heavily upon it.  Also, punctuality and time orientation are a major hallmark of almost all people who have done well in this life.  Hence, our children’s learning to value time is an important part of their Tarbiat.  If the child is dropped off after 7:40 am he/she will have to stand at the back during assembly and marked late. After 7:50 am gate will be closed, and remain closed till 8:25 am.  After 8:25 am students with extraordinary circumstances will be let in with an application from parents/guardian only.  Similarly, although O-Levels and IGCSE will follow their class schedule; they will not be allowed to enter a class after the class has started.
 
Given the heavy rains, our construction project for new classrooms has been delayed. Classes for Grade 5A, O-Levels, and our new IGCSE (Grade 8 and 9) program, will start a week later, on August 7, 2023, inShaAllah.
We are pleased to announce that Boys Section is also introducing easier Arabic for students struggling with the language.
School textbooks (https://www.scholastic.edu.pk/admissions-info/booklist/), stationery, and school uniform (https://www.scholastic.edu.pk/admissions-info/uniform/) are available from ‘Staples’ at the Main Boulevard, Garden Town (042 3594 1011-2).  Uniform Abayas for girls are available at ‘Irtafa Abayas’ (0322-4427535) and can be obtained on three days' order.
Alhamdulillah, we are also introducing Blended Learning into the major subjects in Grades 6 and 7.  We are hopeful that use of this technology will be expanded to all of Junior school next year.  Blended Learning will reinforce our shift to the Flipped Classroom Model, as a teaching pedagogy. As a reminder for our parents, in the ‘Flipped Classroom’ students learn by reading or watching pre-recorded content on their own before the class, and the class itself is used for ‘deeper discussion’ and ‘practice’.  This change in teaching pedagogy (method) has resulted in (as also mentioned in the literature) greater involvement, motivation, and ownership of the learning process among the students. Consequently, the parents’ involvement in the learning process will decrease (due to greater motivation of the student).  However, parents will have to ensure an environment at home where the student can spend more time reading or learning from on-line material. Parents must also ensure that students spend at least an hour at home every day in physical activities (sports etc.) to counterbalance the ill-effects of increased screen time. We plan to have a parent workshop on Blended Learning in August inShaAllah.

After noticing the extremely negative psychological and social impact of using face masks, the school has decided to ban the use of facemasks inside classrooms. It has been observed that students hide behind their masks and do not interact with teachers.

We would like to add that this decision has not been arbitrarily made. Numerous research studies are now coming up showing the extremely negative effects of wearing face masks in schools. Studies show increased stress, introversion, depression and social anxiety. Moreover, numerous parents have also reported the same issues. We hope parents will cooperate with the school in this decision.

From tomorrow (Friday, 3rd February) face masks will not be allowed in the school premises.

Mobile Phone Policy

Respected Parents,

SIU prides itself in being a completely segregated Olevels girls school (perhaps the only one to claim this in Lahore). Carrying a mobile device is against the rules of the school as it can compromise the privacy and safety of the students and the teachers. When students carry a mobile phone, it can unlock a myriad of problems  that may quickly spiral out of control. Thus as per policy and repeated reminders, if a mobile phone is found in posession of any student, it shall result in the confiscation of the device and will be only given at the end of the year with the end-of-year result.
Additionally, novels that contain obscenity will also be confiscated and not returned at all. Parents are requested that the bags of the students should contain neither of these things when the students come to school. Only together we can create a clean environment where we can do the tarbiyyah of the students as best as we can.

Incase of exceptions latecomers will be allowed between 7:55 and 8:25 am twice a month. If a student gets late for the third time, he/ she will be sent back; no excuse will be accepted in this regard. In case the parent does not come to pick the child he/ she will stay in the admin office the whole day. Punctuality is an important part of our faith in nearly everything Namaz, Saum and Hajj etc.

 If due to a medical reason e.g. an appointment with a doctor, a student cannot come on time, the parent will inform the office a day in advance.

We hope to inculcate this habit in ourselves of being 10-15 minutes early in everything which keeps margin for external factors like traffic etc. Because that is a habit we have found in most successful people in life.

Scholastic’s uniform should be Sharia Compliant. 

Overview:

A mandatory school uniform will provide more uniformity in the school environment, promote an atmosphere of greater equality and comradeship, and increase learning opportunities for students by removing many of the distractions and connotations associated with various types of clothing. Full compliance and cooperation regarding the school uniform is expected from all students and parents.

Students shall be expected to maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance at school. Undergarments must not be visible. No article of clothing shall be unsuitable for school activities, or of a nature to call undue attention to the wearer.

Boys' Uniforms:

• Off-white shalwar and Brown kurta*
• Plain Black joggers.
• White socks with no visible logo.
• White (Bangladeshi) Cap or white 'Imama' are mandatory for Hifz students and encouraged for all non-Hifz students.

Girls' Uniforms:

• Off-white shalwar with Brown kameez (Off-white kameez for O-Level students)*.
• Off-white scarf
  • Green stoler (dupatta) for O-Level students,
  • Scarf is optional for girls in KG and below.
• The length of the kameez shall be below knee length.
• Black abaya (gown)** with Green piping on sleeves (for students in Grade 6 and above).
• White socks, with no logo, designs or lace.
• Plain Black Joggers.

Cold Weather (Winter) Apparel / Outerwear Policy (For boys and girls of all classes):

• Sleeveless, Black, V-Neck, sweaters* with strips, and Black jackets*.
• White leggings or polo-necks may only be worn underneath the school uniform.
• In cold weather, students may wear black (only) gloves, earmuffs or woolen caps.

Not Allowed:

The following are not appropriate attire for school and will not be permitted inside school.

• Visible brand-name labels, emblems, logos or designs (such as Nike, Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger, etc.) except for the school logo.
• Extremely oversized, sagging, or tight-fitting clothes
• Baseball caps, hats or hoods from sweater sets
• Non-prescription sunglasses

Please ensure that your child is not wearing any jewelry (earrings etc.) and nail color. Students must come with polished shoes. Boys must have a proper haircut. Only black pony and pins are allowed for girls. In case any uniform item or size is unavailable at Staples, the concerned person of Staples will provide their stamped card to parent that they have to submit in the school admin office to avoid any inconvenience.

Violations:

The principal, administrator and teachers will determine if the uniform policy has been violated. In such cases the school policy is as follows:

Students with improper uniform will be counseled by the Student Development Committee convener and a note will be written on the diary (or sms). If the student has the same issue for a second time, he/she will be made to sit in the office for 10 minutes and another note will be written in the diary (or sms). If the same issue takes place for the third time, the parents will be contacted to take the child back home.

Action may also be taken on untidy / unkempt attire. Any prohibited items of clothing shall be taken by school officials and returned to the parent or guardian only. In some cases, the student may also be sent home if found wearing prohibited attire. On special school days, the principal may not require students to wear the uniform. Such a notice will come through the principal or the administrator. During these times, students must wear dress that is Sharia Compliant.

On account of the Government directive, teams from Health Department will visit the school this week for COVID-19 Vaccination. From Monday 19th September to Friday 23rd, 2022, all students between 5 to 12 years of age, will be given the COVID-19 Vaccine at school. If your child has already been vaccinated again COVID, or for any other reason you do not wish that your child is vaccinated at the school, please write a very brief note saying so in your child's diary. Given the ravaging floods, and the consequent difficulties and hard times facing many of our brothers in the country, Scholastic is working on a flood relief program in cooperation with DaruTaqwa Trust. The purpose of this activity is to sensitize our students to the sufferings of our brothers, and to inculcate a sense of social responsibility.   Collection Day for Junior School (grade 2 – 7) is Friday 2nd September 2022; and for O-levels (grade 8, 9, 10 and 11) is Thursday 1st  September 2022.  Following can be collected:

• Dry Ration (Dry Milk, Lentils, Sugar, Atta/Rice, Tea, Dates, Dry Fruit, etc.),
• Tents and Blankets
• and Cash.  

Please note that the cash donated should be sadaqah only (not zakat) and deposited at the Boys Branch Administration office.  Also, for items other than cash the pack size should be such that it is good enough for one family.

Scholastic Ibne Umar Pre-School section takes immense pleasure in welcoming all our students and parents to an exciting and fruitful academic year In Sha Allah.
