Hifz Policy

We have a Hifz Policy to streamline matters related to Hifz. This policy is needed for effective memorization of Quran Al-Kareem. It also encompasses Tajweed.

Qaida:

  • Students in Scholastic should have completed their Qaidah by Grade 1 (along with memorizing a few short duas).
  • Junior school Tajweed and Hifz teachers will conduct ‘jaizah’ of the Pre-school and Grade 1 students to ensure that the quality of instruction is OK.

Nazirah:

  • Students should start their Nazirah in Grades 1 and 2, along with memorizing last 15 suras of Quran Al-Kareem. Students should complete 10 juz of Nazirah in Grade 2, 3 and 4 each. Nazirah students will also memorize last juz, as well as frequently recited surahs like Ya-sin, Al-Mulk, etc. while at Scholastic in Grades 5-8.

Hifz:

  • Hifz is optional, and open only for students who have demonstrated above average ability for ‘memorization’ and ‘love’ for Quran Al-Kareem. Hifz classes (gender separated) will begin in Grade 3 (Hifz can also be started in Grade 4).
  • Students who have completed Qaida and not passed the jaiza to start the hifz program, but whose parents want to test out the capabilities of their children for hifz, can come to hifz classes on Saturdays (as well as in the summer) to memorize selected surahs of the quran.
  • Hifz students will start the day with 2 rakats ishraq and reading yaseen, to seek Allah’s help in their endeavour.
  • Students (whose parents opt for the Hifz program), will only have English and Math classes. Hifz students should be done with their ‘sabuq’, ‘subqi’ and ‘manzil’ by Period 9. After school they will stay back for about an hour for next days ‘sabuq’. They will also have hifz classes on Saturday (8am-2pm).
  • Targets for hifz are as follows:
    • Year 1 => 5 Juz
    • Year 2 => 10 Juz
    • Year 3 => 10 Juz
    • Year 4 => 5 Juz
  • Parents will be responsible for the student’s punctuality at school, as well as spending time at home every day to memorize the sabuq and revising the manzil.
  • Hifz Jaiza will be conducted by some credible ‘outside’ person twice every term.
  • Students who have revised the Quran a few times, after having completed hifz, will then join regular classes. They will have the option to stay back for an hour after school, as well as come on Saturdays, for revision.
  • If the school feels at any time that a student has lost the necessary motivation for Hifz, it reserves the right to return the student into regular stream.
  • Once every term, the school should engage in programs that ‘motivate’ parents for the effort they are putting in for the hifz of their children.
